Bloomberg LP Announces Its First Layoffs

The financial news and information company founded by Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced its first-ever layoffs yesterday.
Bloomberg LP says it will cut about 100 jobs nationwide in its radio and television divisions. Most of those being laid off are based in the city.
The company says more cuts are possible in Europe and Japan.
A spokeswoman says the cuts are not related to the recession and that the company plans to hire 1,000 new workers this year – many of them in New York.
