1935...Bruno Hauptmann, a carpenter from Brooklyn, is convicted in the kidnapping-murder of aviator Charles Lindbergh's infant son. Hauptmann is electrocuted a year later.
1946...A ten-day tugboat strike is settled. The walkout had shut down shipping in New York Harbor, paralyzing the city.
