After the New York City Housing Authority came under fire for delinquent repairs, a Bronx public housing tenant reached out to NY1 For You with a serious safety concern. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following report.

New York City Housing Authority tenant Chastity Ramirez, who lived in the Soundview section of the Bronx, says a small hole in a wall in her apartment was presenting a huge safety hazard for her two young children.

"My kids are actually starting to play with the hole in the wall. They can cut themselves if they stick their hands in there and yank it out," Ramirez says.

It is also dangerous having an open hole around an electrical socket. The wall has been this way since July, when the fire department broke in to inspect an overheated socket, then told Ramirez to have NYCHA make repairs.

"They came for the electricity but the hole in the wall they said they won't fix it till 2013," says Ramirez.

Not wanting her children to run into danger before the new year, Ramirez contacted NY1 and the station called NYCHA.

"Immediately two days after you came out here they actually came out and fixed the hole. They completely covered the whole thing," Ramirez says.

NYCHA officials did not give a reason for the delay in fixing the safety hazard but Ramirez is just happy to have the hole patched up.
