A dangerous hanging tree limb prompted one Brooklyn man to call NY1 For You. NY1’s Susan Jhun filed the following report.

A broken tree branch in Greenpoint, Brooklyn had resident David Linker worried.

“Several months ago, one branch fell down, and last week [another] branch just fell down. And you can see at the top, where it connects to the tree, that it looks pretty rotten inside,” Linker said. “Children walk under this tree. They pull on it. You never know when this is going to fall.”

The concern seems even more valid in light valid of the recent fallen tree limb in Central Park that killed a six-month-old baby.

“It’s just not safe. This should not stay like this for more than 24 hours,” said Linker.

But when Linker reached out to NY1, the tree limb had already been hanging down for over a week, and Linker told the station that he'd been calling 311 for the last two years about the rotting tree, finally calling 911, all to no avail.

After Linker called “NY1 For You,” the station contacted the Parks Department. In response, the agency sent an inspector out to the location, who determined the tree was indeed infested.

The Parks Department removed the tree, leaving Linker relieved that the hazard has been removed from his neighborhood.
