The latest New Yorker of the Week is a clothing manufacturer whose fashionable sleepwear fashionable helps out a meaningful cause. NY1's Roma Torre filed the following report.

About 20 years ago, at age 28, Charlie Komar's wife Liz was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, also known as type 1 diabetes.

"We started supporting diabetes right when Liz was diagnosed and our two- and three-year-olds at the time, now they are 22 and 20, we decided to do the 'Bike Ride For A [Diabetes] Cure' and we raised a lot of money," says Charlie Komar.

Last summer, Charlie Komar and his youngest son took another bike ride.

"We were out riding and I said to him, 'Do you realize where we are? This is the same road that we had rode on almost 20 years ago,'" says Charlie Komar.

At that point, Komar, a pajama manufacturer, decided to combine his work with his wife's cause.

The Komars have been donating to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for years, but last year Charlie Komar started "PJs For The Cure." One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of the pajamas go to the JDRF, a foundation whose goal is to find a cure.

"The things that work best in terms of fundraising for JDRF are things that people are really passionate about and know the best," says Bill Ahearn, JDRF's vice president of communications. "They obviously know the clothing business and they know pajamas, so I think there's that wonderful personal element, as well as people are getting a good deal and a nice product for it. "

Charlie Komar had the pajamas specially designed for the project. The pajamas are $25 for a children’s set and $40 for women's. Komar's company even pays for shipping.

"Every night when they go to bed, they are going to know that every single penny of their purchase went to a great cause," says Charlie Komar. "They should feel really good that they are helping."

So far, the Komars have raised $100,000 in just three months of sales for the JDRF, and they hope to raise $1 million through the sales.

"There's so many people who have diabetes. So every time someone wears them, they are helping find a cure, not just for me, but for all the little kids and everybody who has it," says Liz Komar.

So, for making pajamas for a chance to find the cure for diabetes, Charlie Komar is the latest New Yorker of the Week.
