Returning Workers Say Bus Company Filled Jobs During Strike

Some workers returning to the job for the first time Wednesday since the school bus strike ended say they were told they had been fired.
School bus chaperons working at Jofaz Transportation, based in Brooklyn, say more than 100 of the so-called matrons were told they had been replaced while on strike.
An employee representative has been meeting with the company's owner to try to resolve the situation.
Jofaz company officials had no comment when NY1 contacted them.
In a statement, ATU Local 1181 President Michael Cordiello said, in part, "Parents should be outraged at the irresponsibility of not allowing Local 1181 members - who provide their children with safe, experienced transportation on wages that are barely above the poverty level - to return to their jobs and the families they know and care about. The union will take all appropriate actions to defend our members."
