Mayor Michael Bloomberg has donated $350 million to his alma mater, Johns Hopkins University, bringing his total donations past the billion-dollar mark.

Bloomberg's latest donation is the largest amount the school has ever received at once.

About $250 million of the donation will go to researching subjects including the science of learning, health care delivery and urban revitalization.

The other $100 million will go to financial aid for 2,600 scholarships over the next 10 years.

The billionaire mayor graduated from Johns Hopkins in 1964.
