Parents in Brooklyn say the ongoing bus strike is taking a toll on them and their children, especially in this freezing cold weather.

At a meeting coordinated by the Brooklyn Parents Center, parents were hoping to speak to the New York City Department of Education's Director of Student Transportation.

When they got there, they were told that person is out sick.

Instead, they said they got a representative who didn't have all the answers.

Many wanted to know why most parents aren't being compensated and what recourse there is for students missing classes.

"I have to rely on other people to get her back to Brooklyn, and I can't get her there, so she's missing half of her mandated physical therapy services because of the strike," said parent Melinda Burke.

"It is your guys' legal responsibility to get my child to school, and I am the one who is physically doing it, then I am fulfilling your job," said parent Shanna Yarbrough. "And as such, why am I not compensated in the least to get my son back home?"

The DOE representative said he will relay the parents' concerns back to headquarters. Meanwhile, in terms of the bus strike, he said that there is no update.
