NY1 has learned some bus drivers and matrons are hearing their union could call a strike for Wednesday.

They're hearing an announcement from the union would come Monday.

We have calls out to the union, bus companies and the Department of Education.

The Amalgamated Transit Union is angry that the city put bus contracts out to bid.

The union wants job protections for some workers, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Chancellor Dennis Walcott say they can't legally guarantee that.

Last week, Walcott laid out back up plans in case a strike happens.

Students who ride buses would get MetroCards, as would parents of younger students.

Parents who live too far from public transportation will be reimbursed if they drive their kids.

After school programs would continue, but all field trips would be canceled.
