Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott and the heads of the school administrators' and teachers' unions announced Monday evening that they reached an agreement on how the city's public school children can make up for school days lost to Hurricane Sandy.

The last three days of winter break, February 20-22, are going to become full school days, according to a statement issued by Walcott, Council of School Supervisors and Administrators President Ernest Logan and United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew.

They also announced that a half-day originally scheduled for June 4 will now become a full class day.

The state requires all schools hold classes for 180 days.

Students citywide missed a week of classes due to the storm.

Mulgrew also says in a statement that any UFT member who have already paid for a trip during winter break should use his or her sick days to get away.

Educators who do not have remaining sick days should either borrow days or take the days without pay.

The teachers' union president says the winter break absences will not factor into disciplinary hearings or performance ratings.

Members of the UFT who are not based in a school who reported to work between October 29 and November 1 will not have to make up those days, according to Mulgrew.
