A free map on school spending now allows city residents to compare how districts spend their money.
The nonprofit Citizens Budget Commission released the interactive map on its website last week to allow viewers to search for a school district and see breakdowns on its budget spending and comparisons to state averages per student.
Overall, New York state school districts spend nearly twice the national average.
There are huge differences, however, in per-pupil spending between high-needs districts compared to wealthier suburban districts.
