EPA To Stop Inspecting City Schools For PCBs

The Environmental Protection Agency said today it has suspended its inspections of public schools for PCBs.
This follows the city's announcement last week that it plans to remove light fixtures suspected of leaking the toxic chemicals.
All 15 of the schools that federal regulators inspected this year tested positive for the chemicals.
The EPA began conducting the inspections in January, after the city balked at the idea of removing the lights. But last week, the city caved into pressure, announcing a 10-year, $708 million plan to replace the aging light fixtures.
The EPA says although it does not have any inspections planned, it reserves its right to do so in the future.
