Bronx School Latest To Test Positive For PCBs

A Bronx school has become the latest to test positive for dangerously high levels of polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs.
The Environmental Protection Agency says 10 of 13 samples taken at PS 68 showed PCB levels above the federal limit of 50 parts per million.
The chemical was found in leaking lighting fixtures.
The Department of Education says it took immediate action to replace them, adding they are evaluating ways to address the issue citywide.
While some parents were concerned, some teachers who spoke with NY1 say they think the school is safe.
"They had the right professionals in and they did the right thing, they cleaned it up. If it was dangerous I wouldn't be working here, I love my school," said one faculty member.
"It's a city school supposedly they're supposed to be more careful, there's kids here going they should take more close consideration on that," said another.
The testing is part of the EPA's effort to inspect one city school every weekend for PCBs.
So far, all four schools it has inspected have turned up positive for high levels PCBs.
