The Democrats were not the only ones reaching out to voters in North Carolina on Monday, as Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan was also in the Tar Heel State.
He told a crowd in Greeneville, N.C. that the American turnaround is long overdue, and presidential nominee Mitt Romney could make it happen.
"The president can say a lot of things today, and he will. But he can't tell you that you're better off. Simply put, the Jimmy Carter years look like the good old days compared to where we are right now," Ryan said.
Romney spent Labor Day boating with his wife in New Hampshire.
