TAMPA, Fla. -- Just a few blocks from the Tampa Bay Times Forum and the Republican National Convention, the Democratic Party Rapid Response War Room is working nearly around the clock to offer a counterpoint to the GOP message this week.

Wednesday, several Democrats and top Obama campaign leaders held a news conference as they've done each day during the RNC. One speaker called Tuesday night's RNC session a "fact free zone."

With Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan speaking Wednesday night, Democrats targeted the Wisconsin congressman's debt reduction proposal. Republicans argue the proposal strengthens programs like Medicare, but Democrats believe it will turn Medicare into a voucher program and affect coverage.

Democrats also argued the Romney-Ryan plan is a repeat of the same failed policies of the George W. Bush administration where top earners keep their tax cuts but middle class Americans pay more.

"The math is pretty simple," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Maryland. "If you want to reduce the deficit, as we all should, but you don't ask the wealthy to pay one penny more, you hit everybody else much harder."

Republican leaders plan on having a similar response presence next week during the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, in addition to the Rock the Red event next Wednesday at Bojangle's Coliseum in Charlotte.
