A federal appeals court in Manhattan on Tuesday denied bail for the New York City police officer charged with conspiring to rape, kill and eat women.
Gilberto Valle was arrested in October.
The defense says he should not be held before next week's trial because he was just engaged in sexual fantasies.
However, the federal judge said there appeared to be evidence that Valle took steps to carry out some of the plots.
Valle was charged last year with using a law-enforcement database as he made plans to kidnap, rape, kill and eat women.
