The New York City Police Department says a man who was shot and killed by police Saturday night in Queens had a long history of arrests.

The NYPD said two plainclothes narcotic detectives were arresting a man in a buy and bust operation Saturday night in Ridgewood when they were confronted by another man, identified by sources as Victor Santos, 46.

Police say that man pointed what appeared to be a semi-automatic glock handgun at the officers.

The detectives fired six rounds, killing him.

The man turned out to be holding a compressed air pistol.

Police have not released his name but say he has a history of arrests.

The NYPD says this was each detective's first police-involved shooting.
