The New York City Police Department says not a single murder, shooting, stabbing or slashing was reported in the five boroughs on Monday.

The rare crime-free streak began around 10:30 Sunday night and lasted until about 11:20 Tuesday morning when a 27-year-man was shot in Brooklyn.

Police officials could not say when they last saw a similar crime-free streak.

NYPD statistics show the city has come a long way since 1990, when there was an average of more than six murders a day and 2,200 a year.

This year, the city is on pace for just about 400 murders.
