The Brooklyn District Attorney's office announced Thursday the indictment of 11 people and the seizure of more than 150 weapons in an alleged massive gun-running sting in Brooklyn.

The suspects face illegal sale and criminal possession of weapons charges.

The guns, including semi-automatic pistols and machine guns, were confiscated throughout the borough during three separate investigations.

In each case, the weapons were brought in from out of state and sold to undercover detectives.

Police also confiscated more than 100 rounds of ammo and a bulletproof vest.

"The dangers that illegal guns pose on our streets simply cannot be overstated," said Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes. "But sadly, we are all too familiar with instances where innocent people and even children are injured or killed when criminals fire their guns in our city."

The three alleged ring leaders - 24-year-old David Augustine, 25-year-old Kerwin Gobin and 34-year Henky Martinez - all face 25 years in prison if convicted on the most serious charges.

The remaining eight suspects face between 7 and 15 years.
