Mayor Michael Bloomberg is asking the State Board of Parole to keep a police officer's four convicted killers behind bars.

In a letter the to board, the mayor asks that parole be denied to the killers of Police Officer Edward Byrne.

Byrne was shot and killed in 1988 while guarding a witness in a criminal case.

Scott Cobb, Philip Copeland, David McClary and Todd Scott received maximum sentences of 25 years to life, and they are up for parole for the first time next month.

Bloomberg says the crime still resonates, and record low crime does not mean we can forget the lessons of the past.
