A retired NYPD sergeant working as a contractor was killed in Afghanistan over the weekend.
Kevin O’Rourke, 52, a former Emergency Service Unit sergeant, was killed Saturday in an attack that also killed a soldier, bringing the U.S. military combat death toll in Afghanistan to 2,000.
O’Rourke’s friends say the divorced father of two helped search for colleagues lost in the rubble of the World Trade Center following the September 11th attacks.
He later moved to Florida.
