A New Jersey man reportedly turned himself in to police Sunday after allegedly shooting an off-duty NYPD detective with his own service weapon.

The New York Post reports Robert Dunbar, 35, shot Detective Louis Pepe twice in the same shoulder inside a New Jersey home on Friday night.

Sources tell the Post that Dunbar became violent after walking in on his estranged wife and Pepe in a compromising position.

A fight broke out and that is when Dunbar apparently reached for the 38-caliber revolver and opened fire.

Pepe, who lives on Staten Island, was treated at a hospital and released.

The NYPD says Pepe is a 16-year veteran who works in Brooklyn.

The Post says Dunbar faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
