Brooklyn, Bronx Shootings Latest In City Gunfire Rash

Gunfire continues to ring out in the city as law enforcement, politicians and community leaders continue to go head to head over who is to blame.
One of the latest incidents involved a 23-year-old man who was shot in the left eye Thursday night.
It happened just before 8 p.m. inside a basketball court on Schaefer Street in Bushwick.
He was taken to Kings County Hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Police believe there was some sort of dispute that led up to the shooting.
No arrests have been made.
Authorities are also investigating a fatal shooting in the Bronx, also surrounding a basketball game.
18-year-old Tashawn Murray was shot twice in the back on a court located on Nelson Avenue in Morris Heights.
Police say it happened shortly after a fight broke out at around 9 p.m. Thursday.
Starasia Dorsch, one of Murray's friends, said she was shocked.
"A good boy, you know," she said. "Always friendly and kind. Always see a smile on his face. We always used to chill and just laugh and joke together every day."
"The violence over here it's ridiculous," said Nikeima Williams, Murray's aunt. "It's like, sometimes, you don't even want your kids to be outside and play because, you know, a stray bullet, anything."
Murray was pronounced dead at Saint Barnabus hospital.
No arrests have been made.
Meanwhile, NYPD officers have arrested and charged the man who allegedly shot at them at a Brooklyn housing project.
Bobby Boomer is facing first-degree charges of attempted murder of a police officer, among other charges, following his arrest early Friday morning on Mill Street in Red Hook.
Police said they received information about a suspicious man with a gun at around 1 a.m.
Responding plain clothes officers saw the 20-year-old with a gun in his waistband. Police said he began firing at them as they approached.
Officers pursued Boomer and were able to capture him in an apartment.
No one was hurt.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly clashed very publicly with local elected officials this week, accusing them of silence on the issue of violence in minority communities. That's put City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in a very uncomfortable position.
The latest rash of shootings comes amid this week's back and forth between the NYPD and community leaders.
It was sparked by comments made by Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, who implied that local leaders were not doing enough to show that violence is not welcome in their neighborhoods.
In response, some community leaders said the NYPD is not paying attention to the growing rumble of dissatisfaction with the violence and the police department.
