Adam Balkin – Technology Reporter

Adam Balkin – Technology Reporter
Adam began working at NY1 in August of 1997 as a writer. After a year and a half of writing for the station's anchors, he was given the go-ahead to write for himself as a part-time General Assignment reporter. And when NY1 decided it was time to add a Technology Beat to the mix, Adam jumped at the opportunity.

He says he's been fascinated with "cutting-edge technology" since 1983, when his family bought one of the first personal computers available (a Franklin Ace 1000).

Adam was born in Kew Garden Hills, Queens, as a third generation New Yorker. His maternal grandparents were both born in 1907 – one in Greenwich Village, the other in Brownsville, Brooklyn – and his paternal grandmother was born in Queens.

Unfortunately, unlike NY1, he cannot lay claim to all five boroughs. No roots trace back to the Bronx or Staten Island. Adam, however, spent most of his childhood just across the river in Livingston, N.J.

During his college years at Penn State University, Adam worked with sports reporter Dick Schaap at ABC News and at the ABC News affiliate feed station, NewsOne. He also interned and wrote for the CBS affiliate WTAJ-TV in Altoona, Pennsylvania. But Adam says he learned most of what he knows about writing and digging for a story while shadowing Dateline NBC correspondent Mike Taibbi.

In his free time, Adam is a rabid Penn State football, Yankees and Knicks fan. His hobbies include playing the drums, traveling and participating in pretty much any sport that involves hitting, throwing or running after a ball.
