Michael Scotto – TWC Political Reporter, Washington DC Bureau

  • Text size: + -

Michael Scotto rejoined the Time Warner Cable News and Local Programming group as a political reporter for the Washington D.C. bureau in January of 2013. He previously covered New York City politics for NY1, focusing on the City Council as well as on development and social service issues facing the five boroughs.

He originally joined NY1 in the summer of 2000 as an intern for the political unit, and returned in 2001 to work as a news assistant. In the summer of 2001, he worked with reporters covering the mayor's race and the terror attack on the World Trade Center.

In the spring of 2002, Scotto was promoted to associate producer of NY1's Inside City Hall program, covering stories on the governor’s race and city politics. He became a full-time reporter in May of 2003 and covered one of the biggest stories of the summer, the shooting death of Councilman James Davis. He was inside City Hall at the time of the shooting and was the first television reporter on the air with the story.

He went on to break numerous stories, including the selection of Christine Quinn as City Council Speaker. He also reported extensively on the Queens blackout of 2006, obtaining exclusive details on the city's response, and he traveled out of town to cover Mayor Bloomberg in Washington, D.C., Boston and Jamaica.

Michael is a graduate of Syracuse University, where he majored in Political Science and Journalism.
