Lindsey Christ – Education Reporter

Lindsey Christ – Education Reporter
Education Reporter Lindsey Christ joined NY1 in September 2009, just in time for the first day of public school.

Since then, Christ has covered a range of topics including Mayor Michael Bloomberg's school reforms, the public and legal battles over closing schools, efforts to reform the schools inside jails, and controversies surrounding charter schools. She was also the first to report a major increase in the number of special education students in the city and a controversial federal policy for reporting the race of students.

After a two-month investigation, Christ broke the story that one of the city’s highest-ranking public schools charged parents for required classes.

Christ has received several national awards from the Education Writers Association, and the top prize for overall reporting from the New York Associated Press Broadcasters Association.

Prior to joining NY1, Christ worked as a reporter for insideschools.org, which reports on the New York City public school system. She began her career as a middle school social studies teacher at I.S. 143 in Washington Heights.

Christ holds two masters' degrees: One in education from Pace University, and another in journalism from Columbia University.

She is a graduate of Middlebury College.
