The Call

The Call is NY1's revolutionary program that puts you in control. It's the first television newscast programmed exclusively by viewers.

The hour-long show, hosted by John Schiumo, is seen live each weeknight from 9-10 p.m.

Viewers program The Call using a tool similar to the one our producers use in the newsroom: a computer-generated rundown of all the stories available for that night's broadcast, listed in alphabetical order.

Users create their own rundown by dragging-and-dropping the stories into the order they desire, the same way NY1's producers do. At 9 p.m., all the submissions are tallied and the top five stories are reported live on the show.

To cast your vote, go to NY1.com/TheCall.

The final breakdown of all stories, ranked by percentage, is posted on The Call page each night at 9 p.m. after the show has begun.

Each night's show also features live phone calls and viewer e-mails and Tweets on the top news topic of the day.

The program made its debut on July 25, 2005, and expanded from 30 minutes to one hour on January 9, 2012. The custom rundown technology was developed by Outlook Technologies and refined in 2008 by Tipit.net.
