Thousands of ribbons are on display in Battery Park, each with a message to commemorate 9/11.

They’re called "Ribbons of Hope," and the tapestry adorns panels alongside the Gardens of Remembrance.

The handwritten messages of hope and healing are part of an art project by the interfaith coalition Prepare New York.

"There's a great diversity of individuals on these ribbons. From school children to senior citizens, from 9/11 family members to individuals who weren't even born 10 years ago,” said Robert Chase of Prepare New York.

"Basically what I just had said was, ‘I give thanks to all those who have served our country over the years, and especially for those who have lost their lives,’" said one woman who hung a ribbon.

The ribbons will be up through Monday afternoon.

Those with a message to add to the display are encouraged to come down and tie on their own ribbons.
