The judge who approved a settlement for thousands of first responders to the September 11th terrorist attacks is now urging other defendants to accept the deal.

U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein wants hundreds of people, including workers involved in the extensive cleanup of buildings surrounding the World Trade Center site, to consider being part of the more than $700 million settlement for health claims.

The deal will compensate about 10,000 police, firefighters and construction workers, but it still must be approved by 95 percent of the plaintiffs before becoming final.
