With the National September 11th Memorial opening in just a little more than a year, the city is trying to drum up support and funds for the project.

Standing alongside September 11th Memorial board member Robert De Niro, Mayor Michael Bloomberg launched a new "Signs of Support" initiative today, in which Downtown businesses are being encouraged to donate to the cause.

In exchange, the businesses are given a special decal to proudly display.

"After 9/11, so many local businesses here did everything possible to support the recovery workers who worked on that pile for so long," said National September 11th Memorial President Joe Daniels. "This is a chance now for those businesses and those that have come down here to get back involved and show their support for the memorial."

Numerous restaurants, retail, and banking establishments have already made pledges.
