New York University is looking to expand into Lower Manhattan and may look into occupying part of the World Trade Center.
The university's officials want to meet with the Port Authority and the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation to determine additional Downtown expansion sites.
In a letter to the agencies, NYU cited community officials who are advocating a move to Tower 5 at the World Trade Center site.
Tower 5 is slated for the site of the former Deutsche Bank building, which is being demolished.
In its place, the Port Authority is looking to build an office tower or a hotel and housing high-rise with 1.3-million-square-feet of space.
The Port Authority said in a statements that the agency is "willing to meet with NYU and pleased that there is so much continuing interest in the site during its building."
NYU is also planning to build a controversial 40-story tower on Bleecker Street.
The university plans to add about six-million-square-feet of space by 2031, and about half of that would be around the core campus in Greenwich Village.
