NY1's weekly segment "Your Weekend Starts Now" shows entertaining picks for great things to do this weekend all around the city. NY1's Stephanie Simon filed the following report.

Rooftop Films Series
This weekend kicks of Rooftop films summer long outdoor film series presenting new and independent films plus live music. Friday night admission is free at Metrotech commons in Brooklyn for the music film "Brothers Hypnotic" about The Hypnotic Brass ensemble with a live performance afterwards by the group. Saturday night in Sunset Park, Brooklyn it's New York mayhem which showcases 8 thrilling shorts! Tickets start at 13 dollars for that.

New York City Ballet
The New York City Ballet closes out it's three week American musical festival with four performances this weekend including a special family program Saturday afternoon. More than a dozen new and classic works will be performed. Tickets start at $29.

World Nomads Tunisia Festival
The World Nomads Tunisia Festival has found a home here in the city. This multi arts fest explores Tunisian arts and culture two years after the Arab spring. Go online for the full schedule.

Lindsay Mendez at Le Poisson Rouge
Before Lindsay Mendez takes over the lead role of Elphaba in the hit Broadway musical, "Wicked", check her out with Marco Paguia at Le Poisson Rouge this Saturday night. The concert celebrates the release of their new CD. Tickets start at $15.

NYCxDesign Expo
The NYCxDesign expo continues now through the 21st. More than 200 events across all five boroughs showcase local and international design.

Chick Corea at Jazz at Lincoln Center
Tonight through Saturday, Jazz at Lincoln Center is chock full of Chick Corea with the pianist composer performing in the Rose Theater with Wynton Marsalis and the JALC orchestra and friends of Chick's playing on the other stages. Ticket prices vary.

NYC Premiere of HOME

On Friday, the 2013 Art of Brooklyn Film Festival presents the NYC Premiere of HOME Directed by Jono Oliver Drama. This original movie tells the tale of a boy who is diagnosed with a mental illness who tries to prove to everyone that he can live on his own, while facing the difficulties of everyday life. Tickets are $11.54. Takes place at Maroney Theater at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, 180 Remsen Street.

Slow Art Day

Slow down and spend some time at Noguchi Museum Art’s Slow Art Day. This is a worldwide celebration of art that encourages people to take some time and look at art slowly, allowing people to view art in a new way. The event starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday and tickets start at $10.


Take your mother to the 10th annual Mamapalooza Outdoor Extravaganza this Sunday at Riverside Park South. This music and art-filled festival will feature family bands, kids’ activities, Gymboree Play Tent, crafts, and more. Admission is free.

"Hello Taiwan NYC" Concert
On Saturday from 6-10 p.m. celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month at the "Hello Taiwan NYC" concert at Dorm NYC. Rocking out on stage are two bands from Taiwan and three bands from right here in NYC. Tickets start at $15.

Dance Parade
Dance the day the way at the Dance Parade this Saturday. See over 10,000 dancers of over 70 styles including performance by Grand Marshals Jacqulyn Buglisi, Chuck Davis, and Louie Vega.
