The American Cancer Society is asking Queens residents to participate in a research study on cancer prevention.
The organization kicked off a recruitment drive for the study at Queens College on Friday.
They are hoping to get 500 locals to sign up during enrollment days this May.
Participants will be asked to fill out surveys about their lifestyle and will continue to receive a survey over the next 20 years in hopes of finding clues to the causes of cancer.
"This is a preventive study that I really, personally believe is a wonderful opportunity for all individuals to participate in so we could potentially find what causes certain cancers," Myrna Barginear of the North Shore-LIJ Cancer Institute said.
"I hear so many times, time after time, day after day, about people saying, I really wish I could do more, what could I do to do more," Cathleen Garry of the American Cancer Society of Queens said. "This is the time that you can do more. Join the study, be part of the fight."
