Flag That Survived 9/11 Attacks Displayed At S.I. Pier

A flag that was nearly torn to bits during the September 11th attacks was put on display Sunday at Stapleton Pier on Staten Island in honor of Fleet Week.
In the days following the terror attacks, the flag was found hanging on a scaffolding at 90 West Street.
It has since been patch with flags from all 50 states, and contains some fibers from the flag that rested on President Abraham Lincoln's body following his assassination.
"We're letting everybody in the country take part in rebuilding Downtown Manhattan," said firefighter Jimmy Sands of Engine 331 in Queens.
"This is very educational. I had no idea there was a flag like that so I learned something new," said U.S. Navy Sergeant Fire Class Paul Dietrich.
The flag will eventually be displayed in the September 11th Memorial Museum in Lower Manhattan.
