Parents, teachers and students protested in Brooklyn on Wednesday the city's decision to close Bushwick Community High School, saying the way the Department of Education judges the school is unfair.

Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez joined the protesters, who claimed because Bushwick is a transfer school for students who struggle in traditional high schools, they cannot be measured using the same standards.

Advocates for the school said the attention and environment Bushwick provides is vital for students.

Many students enter Bushwick when they are 17 or 18 years old and often have 15 credits or less.

NY1 reached out the DOE for comment.
