A Manhattan-based organization that helps veterans in need is getting a major financial boost from last week's Powerball winners.

Services for the UnderServed, based in Chelsea, received a $200,000 donation from the Trustees of the Putnam Avenue Family Trust.

It was created last week by a trio of wealth fund managers from Connecticut who won the largest Powerball jackpot in the state's history.

The group's CEO, Donna Colonna, said she is stunned by their generosity.

She said the money will help fund support programs for thousands of needy veterans returning home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"In my mind it was like, 'Wouldn't it be great to know those guys and to see if that they would in any way support our initiative?' So it was thrilling and somewhat surprising that that connection actually occurred," said Colonna.

The Putnam Trust will also give four similar organizations $200,000 donations.
