Steve Jobs unveiled the device back in October 2001.
It hit the market a few weeks later.
It held 1,000 songs and cost about $400.
The classic design with the scroll wheel stuck around for several years until Apple introduced the iPod touch and iPhone.
Sales last quarter helped the company post record revenue of more than $28 billion.
