A St. John's fraternity stepped up to the plate Saturday in the fight against breast cancer.
Members of Iota Alpha Sigma organized a softball tournament at Bloomingdale Park on Staten Island.
All of the proceeds from the "Save Second Base" event are going to the Avon Foundation for Women.
"We want everyone to see that we can all come together. We can all do things for the community, especially in a community that's as great as the one we live in today,” said Joe Fazzia, president of the fraternity.
“I'm really happy that they're supporting this cause. I really am. That they're so into it is great, to see young people really want to help," said Laura Pearson, who’s battling breast cancer.
Organizers hoped to raise $1,000 at the tournament.
