Fordham University gets a big boost from one of its most well-known graduates.

Fordham announced Wednesday that actor Denzel Washington has donated $2 million to endow the Denzel Washington Chair in Theater.

Actor Phylicia Rashad, best known for playing Claire Huxtable on "The Cosby Show," joined the school's faculty and has been tapped as the first person to hold the position.

Washington, who graduated from Fordham in 1977, also contributed an additional $250,000 to establish a scholarship for an undergraduate student studying theater at the university.
