New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney said Saturday that construction at the Second Avenue subway is safe after six people were indicted for allegedly faking results of concrete tests.

The six defendants from the firm American Standard Testing and Consulting Laboratories face corruption and fraud charges.

Maloney said the concrete was successfully retested by another independent company.

"I called the MTA, they told me that this concrete was used in only one site on the Second Avenue subway, on 96th Street with the boring tunnel, and that they have retested this site and found that it is safe," said Maloney.

The congresswoman added that the project will be kept on time and that it will be running by 2016.
