As part of a unique effort, thousands of puzzle-shaped pieces designed by artists all over the world have found a new home in Manhattan.
They pay tribute to the Yankees, Joey Ramone -- even NY1. Each 24x24 inch foam core puzzle piece tells a different story, but are all connected.
"People start with a blank puzzle piece, but in the end what we have is something that is unlike the pieces next to it," said The Puzzle Project Founder Tim Kelly.
Around 700 of the puzzle pieces are on display at the Spattered Columns Exhibition Space located at 491 Broadway, run by the not-for-profit Art Connects New York. Overall, there are more than 4,000 puzzle pieces, all over the world, created by artists, students, and anyone else who wanted to try it.
Founder Tim Kelly says he's excited to have so many of them on display in SoHo: One of the city's traditional art hubs.
"As it comes together into one big piece of art, it's just a beautiful thing to see," said Kelly.
Art Connects New York founder Jamie Johnson says The Puzzle Project was a perfect fit for her organization and what they are trying to accomplish.
"We really are interested in making art available to everybody in the city," Johnson said.
"It's such an honor, I can't believe that I have this opportunity. I have several pieces here two so it's extra special," said Artist Jessie Chism.
One of the goals of The Puzzle Project is to one day have thousands of pieces on display at a really big venue.
"It will be an amazing thing to behold," Kelly said.
For now, visitors can see plenty of the creations at the SoHo space through July 27th.
