A push to bring higher paying jobs to the city is moving forward.

At a Thursday forum in Manhattan, elected officials joined advocates to push for the passage of the Fair Wages for New Yorkers Act.

The act would require employers that receive major public tax subsidies to pay employees at least $10 an hour with benefits or $11.50 without benefits.

"We have to ensure that our subsidies are not a race to the bottom in maximizing the number of minimum wage jobs, but that the subsidies create good strong jobs that allow people to make a decent living," said City Comptroller John Liu.

The measure now has 29 co-sponsors in the City Council.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has agreed to hold a hearing on the bill.
