In an exclusive interview with NY1 political anchor Errol Louis, real estate magnate Donald Trump talks up a possible White House run: “This country is being pushed around and pushed around, very sadly, by other countries. And I don’t like it and people don’t like it and they see that I do something about it.”
“The way it is going right now, we are a whipping post, we are laughed at,’’ Trump tells Louis in an interview that will air on “Inside City Hall” at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
“I will make a decision by June – and it may surprise you,’’ he said.
Trump emphasized that he would be running on the GOP line if he throws his hat into the ring: “I am a good solid Republican. I am very conservative in terms of the military I am very conservative on lots of issues. But I am certainly very, very conservative in terms of the military.”
He also commented on:
The possibility of buying the New York Mets: “I would love to help them if I can. And you know we will see what happens.”
Running the famed Central Park restaurant, Tavern on the Green: “The fact is I know everything about Tavern on the Green…. What’s going on now is no good. So, I made a deal with the union, the union's all set. They really want to do it, and now it’s up to a very great Mayor Michael Bloomberg and whatever he says is fine. But I absolutely think it’s the absolute best thing to do for the city. Everybody wants it. You know I walk down the street and people and I have everybody saying either: 'Run for president' or 'Please open Tavern on the Green.' They don’t mention the Mets, which is interesting.”
