Golf Digest's Hot List

App Wrap: "Golf Digest's Hot List," "Decoded By Jay-Z"

It's easily one of the most exciting trends to watch with digital devices: how traditional publishers will take a brand you know and love and port that over to a platform like the iPad and how that brand will take advantage of all the technology inside a tablet. Golf Digest's new digital version of the magazine premiers with it's always popular Hot List issue, the popular edition devoted to new gear for the new year. It features hundreds of pictures from different angles of 94 different clubs and the four Editor's Choice clubs also give you 360-degree spinning views. Developers say there are also 11 exclusive videos offering swing tips from top coaches and players, plus there's one on how President Barack Obama's game might get some help from the new app. The first digital version of Golf Digest for the iPad has a free preview edition. If you want the full Hot List that's an in-app purchase for $4.99.

And not satisfied with a paper version and digital version of his best selling book, "Decoded," Jay-Z is now out with a digital supplement of sorts sporting the same name. There are a total of 36 songs in the app: the lyrics, their meaning, and inspiration for each of those songs is laid out by Jay-Z himself via interactive text, pictures, audio, and videos. In fact, there are 17 never before seen video interviews in there. For $9.99 you get to choose 10 songs to be decoded. Once in the app you can drop another $24.99 for access to all 36. "Decoded" by Jay-Z is right now just for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.
