A Manhattan community gathered Wednesday to say thanks to some of New York's Finest.

A special luncheon was held by the Greenwich Village Chelsea Chamber of Commerce.

The group of business owners and leaders came together for the 7th Annual "Safe Streets, Safe Cities" Cop of the Year Awards.

Organizers say it's only fitting to honor those who allow them to stay in business.

"When people feel safe and secure in their environment, they're very comfortable coming out, walking the streets and shopping in the area. And, that's extremely important. Otherwise our businesses will not survive," said Tony Juliano of the Greenwich Village Chamber of Commerce.

"We obviously need to keep our city safe, our streets safe. That helps our neighborhoods, that helps our businesses, it's a community endeavor," said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr.

"It shows that I am being that I enjoy doing. And, police is something I enjoy doing. So, it's important, it's special," said NYPD Anti-Crime Unit Police Officer Leonardo Nimo.

Seven officers were honored for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Two of them served in the United States military in Iraq.
