It was not a warm welcome back for New York Mets relief pitcher Francisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez on Saturday night, after he served out a two-game suspension for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend's father.
Rodriguez was booed as he came out of the bullpen to pitch the ninth inning of Saturday's night game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The all-star reliever gave up a lead-off double, but then retired the side without allowing a run.
The Mets lost the game 4-0.
It was Rodriguez's first game since being arrested on assault charges stemming from an alleged altercation at Citi Field after Wednesday night's loss.
Before Saturday's game, Rodriguez apologized for what happened and announced he will undergo anger management.
"I'm just extremely sorry, and want to apologize to [Mets owner] Fred Wilpon, [Mets Chief Operating Officer] Jeff Wilpon, [Mets President ] Mr. [Saul] Katz for the incident that happened Wednesday night. I want to apologize also to the Mets fans, to my teammates," said Rodriguez.
"He doesn't need to apologize to me. I think probably apologize to the girlfriend and the father-in-law, hopefully," said a Mets fan.
"I think that it's embarrassing for the Mets. You have someone on your team that's supposed to be a model to kids and other people, and this is what he's doing to the father of his girlfriend," said another Mets fan.
Rodriguez's girlfriend and her father have filed orders of protections against him.
