Swimmers were forced out of the water after a shark sighting in the Rockaways in Queens on Saturday.

Beachgoers said a surfer was far out in the water off Far Rockaway when she noticed three small sharks.

Swimmers were allowed back in the water about an hour later, but many were still worried about their safety.

"Yeah I went in back in, after about 45 minutes. I guess they let the people back into he water," said a beachgoer. "You go back in and you're a little scared, you look around."

"There was a girl on a board and the shark was tugging at her leg, her strap. She was out with her father, and when she looked down the shark was circling her board," said another. And when her father looked around to reach for her, there were two more sharks circling around," said another beachgoer. "When they came in, they alerted the lifeguards and [the lifeguards] did a very good job of getting everyone out of the water."

A shark sighting was reported last week at Jones Beach.
