Group Calls On Council To Take Up 'Paid Sick Days' Bill

Demonstrators rallied outside Central Park Wednesday, calling on the City Council to vote on a bill that would allow all private sector employees to earn sick days.
Arguing for the measure, "Make the Road New York" cited a law passed in April giving five weeks vacation to carriage horses.
The group says the "Paid Sick Time Act" has enough support to be veto-proof, but the City Council still hasn't scheduled a vote.
One demonstrator says his lack of sick days forced him to stay at his job, and handle food with a cut finger.
"Sometimes when you see some people sick or is cut on their finger they simply they don't want to buy the meals because they're afraid their food gets contaminated," said the demonstrator.
The group says the Paid Sick Time Act has 36 council co-sponsors, while the carriage horse bill had just 10.
