This week's Health Plus/NY1 Scholar Athlete is a Queens actor, tennis player and A-student. NY1's Jon Weinstein filed the following report.

Daniel Jerolimov is passionate about everything he does at William C. Bryant High School in Long Island City, Queens.

"So you want to try and balance everything now. You don't want to be left out of anything you really want to do, so you try to do a little bit of everything and try to fit it all," he says.

Jerolimov is the captain of the tennis team and went undefeated over the past two seasons. He has been playing the sport since he was five and credits his parents for introducing him to it.

"We went to so many U.S. Open matches, so many finals. I saw so many excellent matches between [Pete] Sampras and [Andre] Agassi. I just love it, it's hard to describe," says Jerolimov.

His coach, Fred Dreier, says his game is remarkably consistent.

"He's been one of the best, most steady players we've had in the history of the program," says Dreier.

Jerolimov contributes to the Bryant community on so many levels that one almost forget he's an A-student. He is a math tutor and a member of the ARISTA Honor Society. But another of those passions he has is acting, starring in multiple school plays.

"There's very few students who deserve to be called a true renaissance man, but Danny embodies all that I wish for in my students," says drama teacher Christopher Hartmann.

"Daniel has what I wish all my students had. He's just dedicated, a wonderful work ethic, he just totally strives to challenge himself constantly," says Assistant Principal Lourdes Cuesta.

Jerolimov will continue to challenge himself next year at Syracuse University. He says it is the perfect place for him because it offers him the opportunity to take part in so many of the activities he's already doing in high school. He will be studying environmental engineering.

"The way I think of it, our planet is our home. And if you abuse our home, what's left? There's nothing left," says Jerolimov. "You want to make your homes better, so you can make everyone's lives more peaceful and healthier. I want to try and help that out."

So, for acing his high school career while getting set for the challenge of college, Daniel Jerolimov is the latest Health Plus/NY1 Scholar Athlete of the Week.

The Health Plus/NY1 Scholar Athlete program celebrates student athletes who successfully combine academics with athletics, and also find time for community service. The program, operated in conjunction with the New York City Department of Education, is open to any senior attending a New York City public high school.

Each week of the school year, a selected student is profiled on NY1 and receives a $2,000 scholarship to the school they choose to attend in the fall.

To apply, download and print out the official Scholar Athlete application, then mail it to the address on the form.
