This week you won't need to go far for a taste of Asian culture. NY1’s Michelle Park filed the following report about the Lucky Rice Restaurant Week, where New Yorkers can sample signature Asian dishes throughout the city. You don't to go far for a taste Far East. Staring this Monday, you can sample all of your favorite Asian dishes during Lucky Rice Restaurant Week.
Like New York Restaurant Week, Lucky Rice Restaurant Week offers special prices and menus, but during this food fest, each dish will have an Asian-inspired twist.
For timid eaters, it’s a great way to try new things at reasonable prices.
“It sparks interest in people and to get out there and dine, see it, and it give us something to do, and rallies the food movement in New York,” says Oak Room chef Eric Hara.
At Buddakhan, chefs will be dishing out a four-course pre-fixe menu for $45 with plates that incorporate tastes from all over Asia.
“We all have different opinions on what makes great food, so we take a little from Korean influences, from Japanese influences, mainly staying in Cantonese, Chinese, but there’s little things to brighten it up and make it different,” said Buddakhan Co-Executive Chef Brian Ray.
One of the featured items is Cantonese steamed sole, a traditionally Chinese specialty.
But you don't have to specialize in Asian food to get a taste of the culture.
While the Oak Room’s everyday menu is New American, Chef Eric Hara says Asian ingredients help many of his dishes pop.
During Lucky Rice Restaurant Week, you can sample these Lobster Dumplings for $13.
“It’s a different Asian experience,” Hara says. “I don't think you'll see those dumplings anywhere, so it’s kind of my touch with an Asian twist, which represents what we do here at the Oak Room.”
More than 30 restaurants and bars throughout the city will be offering special taste, and sips of Asia during Lucky Rice Restaurant week from May 3rd to May 9th.
